It would seem that the artwork I do during the down times at appearances has struck a chord with some of the dancers. I guess I just figured that all of them were completely cool with me defacing their team photo. I mean, I was cool with it so why wouldn’t everyone else be cool with it too?
Besides the photo you saw, I drew another one where I had them all bound and gagged. I called it "Kidnapped." Then there was another one where I made one dancer into a ninja, one into a football player in full pads, one into a clown, and another a blues brother, among others.
On Monday we had another appearance and the dance team made it clear that they were through with my shenanigans. They got a picture and started working on what I thought was a photo of me. I was sure they were going to turn me into a ballerina or something. When they finished their scribbling they walked over to me and dropped their work down right in front of me. It wasn’t a picture like I thought, but a poem instead:
Dear Rod Benson and accomplices
Your game is tight,
That is until you … CHOKE
Even though you from So-Cal
You still just a joke
You may be artistic,
And maybe a big sho-
But remember Rod Benson
You only SEMI-PRO
I didn’t think it was that bad at first. It was my teammates who got me hyped up about it. They kept saying how the dancers got me and how I needed to fire back. Then I started to think about it. They were right. The dance team that cheers me on said that I choke! That aggression must not stand.
I played it cool that day and held my tongue, but now I need to retaliate. So here is my ode to the dance team:
Our dancers get down in their little black pants,
Only problem is that these women can’t dance
I’m sorry to say it cause they try so hard,
But I have to play the "try harder" card
I know, I get it, I’m just semi-pro,
But you dance for me, you’re semi-Boom Tho
Even in the games where I allegedly choke,
You have to put on a smile and cheer for this bloke
So next time you’re on the sidelines of a Wizards game,
Keep in mind that people watch me, and don’t know your name
Boom. I guess I was a poet and I didn’t even know it! It’s all in good fun though. Hopefully they don’t take it to the next level again. They can ask Morris Almond about what happens when things go to the next level.
