Unless you’ve avoided the Internet for the past three years, you’re well aware of how many blows the Indiana Pacers’ image has taken. There have been shootings and strip club brawls, connections with accused murderers and rapists, and most recently, reports that Danny Granger started the Cold War. It’s been rough.
But fear not Pacers faithful, Oprah Winfrey is here to save the day! (Well, sort of.) The Indianapolis Business Journal tells us that Oprah’s boy toy, Stedman, is now giving advice to the troubled Pacers.
Best-selling author Stedman Graham says professional athletes should think of themselves as "a corporation unto themselves." "They need to represent themselves as a major business would," Graham said during a recent telephone interview. "That awareness is created by a different kind of thinking."Graham brought that message to the Indiana Pacers during a three-hour private seminar in late January that was designed to get the players to rethink the importance of their individual images.
Players said they enjoyed the program, and Pacers officials are considering bringing Graham back for follow-up sessions.
I absolutely love the idea of NBA teams bringing in Oprah-minions to help solve their problems. Can you imagine what Dr. Phil could do with the Raps’ point guard dilemma, or how quickly Dr. Oz could get those ailing Wizards back on the floor? Hell, give designer Nate Berkus $200 and some power tools and I’m pretty sure he’d save the Sonics. He’s that talented!
